James Baker Hall
The foundation was established to honor James Baker Hall, a nationally renown writer and photographer who stayed close to Kentucky roots all of his life and served as a dedicated mentor to a younger generation of Kentucky artists. Our Foundation continues to honor the heritage of Kentucky artists accumulated over more than 150 recognized the world over as the vanguard in their genre. We intend to promote the continuation of this heritage for future generations.

James Baker Hall Foundation Book Award
With the creation of the James Baker Hall Foundation, Jim’s family wanted to make sure the thing most dear to Jim, the mentoring of writers, continued. Having spent 30 years as the director of the Creative Writing program at the University of Kentucky, Jim was always eager to help young writers find their way as artists.
Kentucky-on-the-Road; a Literary Pilgrimage
With the launch of his book Wesley Houp and the James Baker Hall Foundation will begin a pilgrimage of sorts, the James Baker Hall ‘Kentucky-on-the Road’ speaker series (KYOTR) an idea developed with counsel from Bill Goodman and Frank X Walker to celebrate all aspects of our rich literary heritage in the Commonwealth everywhere in the Commonwealth there are writers.
